Winning the Diversity Visa Lottery

Every year 55,000 fortunate individuals win the Diversity Visa Lottery.
The majority of the winners reside outside the U.S. and receive their immigration packet at a U.S. Consulate in their place of residence. However, other individuals apply for a Green Card while living within the U.S.

Winning the lottery itself does not guarantee obtaining a Green Card. Applicants must correctly complete the application and meet all the qualification requirements established by the U.S. Immigration Laws and Regulations. Additionally, winners must successfully pass interviews with an American consul at a U.S. Consulate as well as a U.S. Customs and Border Protection officer, and properly cross the border upon entry into the U.S.

Adjustment of status

Winning the DV Lottery while residing outside of the U. S.:

To initiate the process for obtaining an immigrant visa, you are required to complete Form DS-260 on the Consular Electronic Application Center website, provide corroborating documents for yourself and the family members who will be relocating to the U.S., schedule and attend an interview at a U.S. Consulate, receive a Visa Packet, undergo an interview with a U.S. Customs and Border Protection officer upon entry to the U.S., and provide an American address where documents will be received.
The process is complex and needs to be meticulous. All documents must be strictly completed in English. Any errors in paperwork or failure to meet the deadline or interview may result in losing the lottery win and a Green Card denial.

It is highly recommended you seek assistance of a licensed immigration attorney to safeguard individuals from denial of becoming a U.S. resident.
